Pruitt Taylor Vince’s casting as Jonathan “Pa” Kent in James Gunn’s Superman was unexpected. The Wrap first broke the news about Vince playing Clark Kent’s father in the upcoming David Corenswet starrer. He is best known for his performances in projects like The Walking Dead, The Mentalist, Stranger Things, Heroes Reborn, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Blacklist, and more. While primarily popular for his television roles, Vince has also worked in many popular movies such as Constantine, Homefront, Beautiful Creatures, Bird Box, and more.
Vince’s casting in Gunn’s Superman will definitely not sit well with many diehard DC fans. And they are not wrong to feel unsure about the actor’s selection. Vince looks nowhere near like Jonathan Kent when it comes to the character’s physical appearance. He may not embody the traditional stoic, farmboy persona of Jonathan Kent, but he is capable enough to capture the character’s warmth and moral compass. Vince could bring a fresh take on Clark’s father in Superman. Prominent for playing complex characters, Vince might add a unique emotional depth to “Pa” Kent, exploring his vulnerabilities on the big screen.
This is not the first time Gunn has surprised fans with a “unique” casting. The announcement of Wendell Pierce’s casting as Perry White also drew mixed reactions from the DC fanbase.
We have Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent in Superman. But we do not know who will play Clark Kent’s mother, Martha Kent, in the forthcoming James Gunn project. We may find out soon about it. The film stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Nicholas Hoult, Wendell Pierce, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
