Opening to a mediocre theatrical and audience reception, Suriya’s Retro is now set for its OTT release in India. Karthik Subbaraj’s latest movie hit theatres worldwide on May 1, made on a hefty budget of INR 60–65 crores. However, according to Sacnilk, the film managed to earn only INR 95 crores after a 15-day struggling theatrical run.
During its theatrical run, the makers of Retro were also accused of releasing inflated and allegedly fake box office numbers, claiming up to INR 200 crores, which led to a backlash on social media. Many called it a poor attempt to attract more audiences to theatres and salvage the film’s performance.
It was announced some time ago that Retro would have its OTT premiere on Netflix in India. Now, a fixed digital release date has been confirmed. According to several online reports, the latest Suriya starrer will arrive on Netflix on June 5. It will release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. However, there is no official word yet on a Hindi-language version.
It’s important to note that the makers have yet to make an official announcement regarding Retro’s digital release.
