We are, of course talking about Amazon Prime Video. In a recent survey conducted by Ormax, the OTT platform has emerged as the number one choice for viewers who want to watch Indian movies of the top industries.
The Telugu movies are most in-demand, according to the survey followed by Tamil and Hindi. If we look at Amazon Prime Video’s digital acquisitions, the same pattern would be visible. They are picking most, if not all, the prominent Telugu movies.
However, one is surprised not to find Malayalam movies here. They are also the most tracked among the netizens, but we guess there is a competition in the form of Netflix.
It brings us to another key finding of the survey. When it comes to Hollywood movies, Netflix leads the Indian OTT space with its massive library. In the regional segment, they have good Malayalam films, as well.
The bottom line here is that none of the homegrown OTT platforms is the primary choice even for the regional viewer. It goes to show how well Amazon Prime Video and Netflix have done well in this segment.
When it comes to the original content (movies or series), it is a different matter. We are watching the struggle Amazon Prime Video is having to come up with a universally liked product in their filmy presentations.
