OTT giant Amazon Prime Video had launched its content streaming services in India way back in December 2016. The reputed OTT platform has been consistently churning out an interesting blend of original Indian series since the year 2017.
Until recently, Amazon has released around 27 original Indian series spanning multiple genres in various Indian languages including fiction, animated, and documentary series. Here is the full list of Amazon India original series released until now since 2017 along with the series’ current IMDb rating. For this article, we have included titles with a minimum of 100 user votes.

The above information may seem to be random data on a casual viewing. However, if we analyze it from a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) perspective by using the IMDb rating aspect, it might give us a more concrete viewpoint of Amazon’s India original series’ portfolio.
STRENGTHS
As we can observe from the above data, the overall average IMDb user rating for a total of 27 Amazon India original series titles is 7.2/10, which is quite impressive. Careful identification and selection of top-notch titles such as ‘The Family Man’, ‘Mirzapur’, ‘Breathe 1 & 2’, ‘Paatal Lok’ and ‘Panchayat’ can be considered the biggest strength and cornerstone of Amazon’s India original series portfolio. The average IMDb rating for these six titles alone is an admirable 8.3/10.
WEAKNESSES
From the above data, it is evident that 7 out of a total of 27 series titles have got an IMDb rating of less than seven. Meaning thereby, around 25% of total series titles are rated less than 7 at IMDb. This is what we think is the portfolio’s weakness. Although it should also be considered that IMDb user rating might sometimes not represent the actual quality of a title due to various reasons such as an insufficient number of votes, etc.
OPPORTUNITIES
The Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and other regional industries present myriad opportunities for Amazon Prime Video and presently there are merely 4 non-Hindi language titles (just about 15%) in the series portfolio. Amazon Prime Video has included some fantastic regional language movie titles such as ‘Soorarai Pottru’, ‘Narappa’, ‘Drishyam 2’, ‘Joji’, ‘C U Soon’, and ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’ in its films’ portfolio. A similar strategy could also be adopted in the case of its series portfolio.
THREATS
Indian original series titles from rival OTT giants like Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar can be considered as threats to Amazon’s India original series portfolio.
