The speculations regarding the direct-to-OTT release of Taapsee Pannu starrer ‘Rashmi Rocket’ were laid to rest when the makers had announced on Monday that the film will release directly on OTT on the popular streaming service platform Zee5 this Dusshera on 15th October 2021. And earlier today, it was revealed through a short teaser video that the trailer for ‘Rashmi Rocket’ will be unveiled today at 6:30 PM.
At the outset, the trailer of ‘Rashmi Rocket’ states that it is inspired by the struggle of several female athletes. Taapsee Pannu’s character Rashmi Vira is portrayed as a vivacious girl who is a champion runner. However, her life suddenly takes a U-turn, as she gets banned after undergoing a gender test. Rashmi then files a petition against the Indian Athletics Association for human rights violation. So, from the trailer, it seems that Rashmi fights a dual battle, both on and off-track, in the film.
It is evident from the trailer and from previously released images that Taapsee Pannu has worked hard to attain the kind of physical appearance required to play an athlete’s character. The effort has translated well on the screen and is somewhat reminiscent of the dedication of other Indian actors like Aamir Khan in Dangal and more recently Kriti Sanon in Mimi.
‘Rashmi Rocket’ is a female-centric sports drama film helmed by Akarsh Khurana where Taapsee Pannu is ostensibly playing the role of the titular Gujarati athlete named Rashmi, who dreams of winning an international athletics competition.
The production of ‘Rashmi Rocket’ had commenced in November 2020 and the filming was wrapped in January this year. The film would also feature veteran performer Supriya Pathak in the role of Taapsee Pannu’s mother. While ‘Mirzapur’ alumni Abhishek Banerjee and Priyanshu Painyuli will reportedly be essaying the roles of a lawyer and Taapsee Pannu’s love interest, respectively.
Besides ‘Rashmi Rocket’ which is releasing on Zee5 on 15th October, Taapsee Pannu’s forthcoming projects include German-remake thriller ‘Looop Lapeta’, ‘Who Ladki Hai Kahaan’ co-starring ‘Scam 1992’ actor Pratik Gandhi, Ajay Bahl’s ‘Blurr’, Prakash Raj’s directorial film ‘Tadka’ co-starring Ali Fazal, and Anurag Kashyap’s thriller ‘Dobaaraa’, amongst other projects.
