Taika Waititi Gives A Disappointing Update About His Star Wars Movie

Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has given a heartbreaking update about his upcoming Star Wars film.

Over three years have passed since the fans watched a Star Wars movie in theatres. The Rise of Skywalker might have earned over $1 billion globally, but it also suffered the wrath of fans due to several divisive plot elements and bestowing the viewers with too much fanservice. Since its release, fans have constantly targeted Lucasfilm’s president, Kathleen Kennedy, for spoiling the space opera franchise. In addition, the executive has made some noticeable mistakes in recent years, and one of them is focusing heavily on the franchise’s small offerings and putting several feature projects on hold.

Kennedy promised the fans last year that Taika Waititi’s Star Wars movie would come out in 2023. Well, you all can take a grain of salt as his feature project is not progressing the way he had hoped.

Waititi appeared at the recently held Toronto International Film Festival, where he presented Deadpool 3 helmer Shawn Levy with the iconic TIFF Tribute Award. He also joked about Levy’s Star Wars movie getting finished before his.

“Once he’s had his way with [the Deadpool] franchise, like a cruel and indiscriminate virus, he’ll move on to another, and another, and another. And then eventually, probably Star Wars. And unlike me, maybe this guy manages to finish the script for that.”

It seems like Taika Waititi’s Star Wars project has taken a backseat at Lucasfilm. The director has helmed several critically acclaimed projects. However, Thor: Love and Thunder was seen as one of his weakest efforts. Stay tuned for more updates.
