Hotstar certainly has a neat slate set for release in the second half of December. Here’s a look at all the major and interesting titles coming onto your screens:
Govinda Naam Mera- 16By the time you are reading this piece, the goofy mystery thriller would have been released on the streamer. Headlined by top names like Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar, the movie seems to have all the trappings for a hilarious ride. It doesn’t seem to take itself seriously, adding to the charm of the direct-to-OTT title produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions in association with Viacom18 Studios. Directed by Shashank Khaitan the helmer of ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, it is to be seen if the movie delivers all the fun and celebration it promises.
Fleishman Is in TroubleThe drama series follows Toby Fleishman(Jesse Eisenberg), a recently divorced forty-something-year-old man who finds himself immersed in the world of app-based dating. But as he begins to find successes he never found in his youth, his ex-wife Rachel disappears without a trace, leaving him with their kids. The series’ one episode will be released on the 16, 23 and 30.
His Dark Materials
Among one of the most visually striking TV series ever made, the title will have all of its remaining 4 episodes released this month, completing its third and final season. With its previous two seasons being critically acclaimed and loved by the audience, two episodes each of the third season are to be released on Dec 20 and 27 respectively.
Big Bet
Big Bet tells the story of a man who rose to the top and became the legendary king of the casino in the Philippines but confronts unfortunate events. After getting tangled in a murder case, he is now faced with the ultimate bet with his life on the line to get back in the game. The Korean series’ first three episodes will be released on the streamer on Dec 21, with the fourth episode to release on the 28.
Atom’s Last Shot- Dec 21
‘Atom’s Last Shot’ stars Kento Yamazaki as Nayuta Azumi, a young game developer who creates games on his own without the help of any major companies or distributors. He is nicknamed the “Banksy of the game industry,” as no one knows him. After a certain incident, he decides to lead a quiet life. All episodes of the Japanese series will be released simultaneously.
Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey- Dec 22
We cannot stress this enough- don’t miss this gem of a movie. Starring ‘Minnal Murali’ director Basil Joseph and Darshana Rajendran, ‘Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey’ is the perfect mix of humour and social message. In fact, the movie keeps you engaged with every ounce of your being at what’s happening and it is only once the movie ends that you walk away indirectly having understood what the movie was trying to convey all along.
Gannibal- Dec 28
The Japanese drama series will see a police officer posted to a remote village in the countryside, but unknown to him is the fact that he’s encroaching on a community of cannibals. The first episode of the series will be released on the 28, with weekly new episodes.
Butterfly- Dec 29
Anupama Parameshwaran’s ‘Butterfly’ will fly in on the 29th onto the streamer. The movie is touted to be an investigative thriller and will see Anupama playing the role of a mother whose children go missing. The movie will be streaming in Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada along with the original Telugu audio.
Aar Ya Paar- Dec 30
A series that seems to revolve around the wild vs man genre, the Hotstar Special boasts an ensemble cast consisting of Aditya Rawal, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sumeet Vyas, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and Patralekhaa. A story of corporate greed and how nature and man fight back, the series is expected to be a riveting watch.
