Actress Sophie Wilde has given a disappointing update about the highly-anticipated sequel, Talk To Me 2. Its predecessor, Talk To Me (2021), was a big critical and commercial success. It earned over $92 million against its $4.5 million budget. The film also received rave reviews from the critics, scoring a ‘fresh’ rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 281 reviews.
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Sophie Wilde disclosed that she was not sure about her return to Talk To Me 2 as Mia. She did reveal that she was interested in returning to the sequel.
“I don’t know. I feel like it’s still a bit hush hush because I mean, the boys [filmmakers Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou], they’re such workaholics. I know they’re focusing on a bunch of other projects that they’re doing at the moment. So I don’t know, it’s all up in the air. But I said to them, I was like, “I’m gonna get actual FOMO if I’m not in this film, so can I just come on set and be like a boom operator? I will be an assistant director, I just want to be involved,” said Wilde.
Given the 2022 film’s financial success and its ambiguous ending, it was natural for A24 to greenlight its sequel. In August 2023, A24 made an official announcement about developing the second part of Talk To Me. Danny and Michael Phillippou will direct this one as well. The sequel will have the script developed by Danny and Bill Hinzman.
A24 has not yet revealed Talk To Me 2’s release window. Plus, we do not know which characters from the first film will return in the sequel. Considering the film’s story, it seems like the second part may introduce several new characters in the franchise. As for Sophie Wilde’s Mia, she may not appear in the sequel, given what happens to her in the first film.
In addition to Sophie Wilde, Talk To Me stars Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, Miranda Otto, Zoe Terakes, Chris Alosio, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
