Tamil film ‘Rebel’ hit theatres on 22nd March, 2024. The G. V. Prakash Kumar starrer received average reviews from critics and audiences. Most people appreciated the characterisations in the movie but panned the plot and writing. ‘Rebel’ also did underwhelming business at the ticket windows, proving to be a flop at the box office.
All of the above has contributed to ‘Rebel’ landing on OTT a mere 15 days after its theatrical release. Yes, ‘Rebel’ has now begun streaming on Prime Video India from early this morning. The norm is a minimum 28 days release on OTT after its theatrical release. Such an early OTT release — within two weeks — is a sure shot sign that the producers merely want to recover their investment in the movie as quickly as they can.
Tamil film ‘Rebel’ is inspired from real events that occurred in the life of a student in Munnar in the eighties. The film centres on a young college student, Kathiresan (G. V. Prakash Kumar), who moves from Munnar to Palakkad to get a better education.
