The British reality TV “comedians only” game series, ‘Taskmaster’, has started its 12th season and it has dropped on their official YouTube Channel. Taskmaster, Greg Davies and his assistant, Alex Horne returns and they greet us with five new comedians – Alan Davies, Desiree Burch, Guz Khan, Morgana Robinson and Victoria Coren Mitchell. For those of you who do not know, Taskmaster is a reality TV game show which has five participating comedians, performing various tasks, usually at the “Taskmaster’s Home”, which is more of a studio (though there are a few tasks that take place in different parts of the country as well). The tasks are provided by the aforementioned Taskmaster, Greg Davies and his assistant, “little” Alex Horne. The contestants are given weird tasks to complete and at the end of each task, the Taskmaster provides them with points. Because of who the participants are and the absurd nature of some of the tasks, nearly every task ends up being funny acts put up by these comedians, be it deliberately or on accident. Hence the points given by the Taskmaster are completely arbitrary, which is a humorous affair in itself.
The series was developed by the previously mentioned British comedian, Alex Horne. The show is undergoing its 6th year of production, with 2 seasons being made per year. At the end of five seasons, the show makes a two-episode spin-off called ‘Taskmaster: Champions of Champions‘, which brings back the winners of those five seasons for a small competition to declare the “best” among them. The second edition of ‘Taskmaster: Champions of Champions’ called ‘Taskmaster: Champions of Champions II’ is expected to premiere sometime later this year. The coronavirus pandemic delayed the second outing of the Taskmaster: Champions of Champions, however, hopefully, it won’t take more unnecessary time.
