Taylor Sheridan (creator of Yellowstone and Mayor of Kingstown) will write and helm the live-action adaptation of S. C. Gwynne’s 2010 novel, “Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History”. Deadline first broke the news.
In a highly competitive bidding process, Taylor Sheridan and his production company, Bosque Ranch, emerged victorious and obtained the rights to the novel. Apart from his directing and writing duties, Sheridan will co-produce the project with Jenny Wood. However, it is not clear whether the project will be a television series or a movie.
Gwynne’s novel is based on the decades-long struggle between the white settlers and the Comanche tribe to gain control of western America. Quanah Parker is considered one of the greatest chiefs in the tribe’s history.
Sheridan should develop a television series out of the ‘Empire of the Summer Moon’ novel, given his work in this area. He is known to create critically acclaimed shows like Yellowstone, 1883, Tulsa King, and 1923. Some of his other popular TV projects are Mayor of Kingstown and Special Ops: Lioness. In addition to his television projects, he has directed strong feature projects, like Wind River (2017) and Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021). He has also served as the writer for Sicario (2015), Hell or High Water (2016), and Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018).
The production of Yellowstone Season 5 will resume in late 2024. The first three seasons of the show are now available on Netflix. Stay tuned for more updates.
