Anushka Sharma unveiled the teaser of Netflix movie Bulbbul on social media. Sharing the clip, she wrote on Instagram, “Here’s your first look at #Bulbbul, a fantastic tale about self-discovery and justice, wrapped in lore, mystery and intrigue”. The teaser is quite gripping and piques the interest of viewers. While her last production Paatal Lok was released on Amazon Prime Video, Bulbbul is all set to release on streaming giant Netflix as a ‘Netflix Original Film’.
The trailer of the film shows a young boy narrating the story of the witch who haunts the villagers and gobbles down princesses. The child bride, who the story is being narrated to, is clearly stricken on hearing the story. The eerie music playing in the background along with a lady prancing on trees with inverted feet makes the narrative scarier.
Bulbbul is set in the backdrop of a village in Bengal and revolves around Satya and his elder brother’s child bride, Bulbbul. The two children become quite close, almost growing up together. But the bond breaks when Satya is sent to England for higher studies. He returns to his village to find Bulbbul has been abandoned by his elder brother. She lives alone and helps the villagers to cope with their miseries. The village is rife with rumours of a witch and murder mysterious. Satya decides to get to the bottom of this mystery surrounding the woman who haunts the village. Does anyone else get Rabindranath Tagore vibes?
Releasing on 24th June, Bulbbul stars Rahul Bose, Tripti Dimri, Avinash Tiwary, Paoli Dam and Parambrata Chattopadhyay. Anvita Dutt has taken the director’s chair for this supernatural and mysterious story.
Let’s hope Bulbbul is just as interesting as Sharma’s previous production Paatal Lok!
