Ted Lasso Season 3 to Have Character’s Origin Stories

Ted Lasso fans finally have some update regarding the plot of the next season of the show. The cast of Apple TV+’s show Ted Lasso made an appearance at the SXSW panel session and teased fans with an update on the upcoming season of the show. The SXSW, South by Southwest, is an annual conference that celebrates convergence of tech, film and music industries.
Jason Sudeikis, actor and co-creator of the show, along with co-creator Brendan Hunt and co-star and writer Brett Goldstein were part of the panel. The conference was in Austin, Texas but the cast joined in via zoom from London where they are currently shooting the third season of the show.

Not much is known about the plot of the third season of the show and the cast did not give away much. However, Brendan Hunt (who plays Coach Beard) in the show teased audiences that there would be more origin stories, particularly that of character Rebecca Welton and her ex-husband Rupert Mannion.

This update is surely going to get fans excited. If there was one character which fans would love to see an origin story about in Ted Lasso, then it is Brendan Hunt’s Coach Beard. The character has a certain mystery to it as he gives very little away about his background and personal life.

The Ted Lasso panel at SXSW conference was chaotic as the actors got confused with the scheduled time as Austin, Texas had moved its clock forward by an hour over the weekend whereas the same hasn’t happened in the UK (from where the cast was joining). Brendan Hunt and Brett Goldstein joined from the back of a car as they were moving to the AFC Richmond locker room for a shoot.

Shooting for the third season began last week. The show was originally envisioned as a three-season show. However, given its roaring success, it may not be surprising if we have more than three seasons. The show developed for Apple TV+ is a sports comedy-drama streaming television series developed by Jason Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt, and Joe Kelly. Ted Lasso is Apple TV+’s most successful show having won multiple awards including the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. The series is based on a character Sudeikis played in NBC Sports videos several years ago, who now coaches the AFC Richmond team in the show.

This update from Hunt regarding the plot is welcome given that very little has been revealed about it. The first two seasons of the show were released in August 2020 and July 2021 respectively. However, no release date for season 3 is yet announced.

Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Apple TV+.
