Teddy: Another Tamil Film Takes the OTT Route Amidst Uncertainty!

Teddy is an upcoming Tamil animated movie that uses motion capture to bring an animated character to life o the screen and it seems like a really riveting affair. It is the second-ever Tamil film to do so.

Teddy is directed by Shakti Soundar Rajan who is also known for his other title ‘Tik Tik Tik’ and ‘Miruthan’. ‘Tik Tik Tik’ was based in space and was also huge on animation. In an earlier interview, Shakti Soundar Rajan had emphasised how they roped in an artist to bring this special character to life which can be seen on screen for close to 80 minutes. The film stars Arya and Sayyeshaa in main roles while Masoom Shankar, Yogi Babu, and Magizh Thirumeni play essential supporting roles in the film.

Very rarely do we get to see a Teddy playing a titular role in an Indian movie and just shows how much cinema has evolved n the recent past with filmmakers willing to experiment with unique themes and characters.

Teddy was initially supposed to release during the summer of 2020 but with everything going around had to put this off. With all the chaos going around the OTT platforms certainly provide for a good landscape especially for experimental filmmakers like Shakti Soundar Rajan.

The recent turmoil with distributors and producers has led to a really tough situation for many films and with recent reports, it looks like Teddy is all set for a direct OTT release.

Teddy is all set to release directly on Disney+ Hotstar on 19th March tentatively.
