This puja is indeed special for the Bengali film industry as three big titles are releasing on the same day and the clash of titans has already started. The three movies are ‘Bohurupi’, ‘Tekka’ and ‘Shashtri’ and among these, the first two are the most anticipated titles of the whole year.
Tekka marks the very special collaboration between Dev a.k.a Deepak Adhikari and Srijit Mukherjee. Srijit Mukherjee has gone a long way with his films and shows in Hindi and with Tekka he once again intends to impress his Bengali audience. But Bohurupi has already gotten an edge over the movie. It is strange because Tekka has a huge star arguably the most successful contemporary bengali filmmaker is directing it, the movie is massy and has big commercial elements, yet it is falling behind a movie that does not have that much of star power. It is behind Bohurupi in terms of bookings. It is probably happening because the large number of rural audiences are choosing to watch Bohurupi as it is a thriller based in a village.
These movies will have an uninterrupted run for the first few days at theaters. The hype and the absence of big titles from other industries will work in favour of these bengali films. It is good that full-on commercial movies like these are getting the attention they deserve at the box office and it is indeed a very good news for the industry.
