‘Test’ Didn’t Pass! Will ‘Jewel Thief’ Help Netflix India Maintain Streak?

Netflix India has had a consistent run this 2025 delivering a good enough original title to create an impact every month. In January it was Vikramaditya Motwane and Satyanshu Singh’s ‘Black Warrant’ followed by Excel Entertainment’s ‘Dabba Cartel’ and Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Khakee: The Bengal Chapter’ in February and March respectively.

Something similar was expected with ‘Test’, a Netflix original film that was promoted in full strength and came out this April 4th with huge anticipations. But the early reactions and reviews are not going the way Netflix India would have wanted.

R. Madhavan, Nayanthara and Siddharth starrer sports drama ‘Test’ has been criticised by critics for its weak storyline and characterisation. Despite good performances, the film fails to have a strong emotional quotient.

And so unfortunately looks like ‘Test’ did not pass. Does that mean Netflix India will break the streak it has maintained for the past three months?

Maybe not! That’s because Netflix India has one other original film coming later this April. It’s Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat starrer heist thriller ‘Jewel Thief’ directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Garewal.

This one once again has high expectations not just because of the interesting star cast and plot but also because heist dramas happen to be one of the most loved genres in our country.

But then there’s also the risk of ‘Jewel Thief’ turning out to be a predictable cliched drama since the already out promotional material on the film has been pretty average. Although more will become clearer when the trailer’s out and it might be a bit hasty to predict how this one will do.

Now that ‘Test’ didn’t impress, Netflix India has all its hope pinned on ‘Jewel Thief’ to deliver this April for the platform and help take the success run forward. Whether or not it does that remains to be seen.
