Taron Egerton’s Tetris has locked a release date on the Apple TV+ streaming service. The upcoming Jon S. Baird directional will hit the platform on March 31.
Tetris looks like an easy game to play. However, its origin story is more complicated than the game itself. And that’s what the upcoming Apple film will show to the viewers. Previously titled ‘Falling Blocs’, the movie focuses on the invention of Tetris during the mid-1980s when the war between communism and capitalism was about to come to an end. Prominent Russian-born computer engineer, Alexey Pajitnov, is responsible for inventing the game in the very first place. However, he was unable to license and distribute his creation to a global audience as the USA and the Soviet Union were not at all interested in concepts like ‘profits’ and ‘intellectual property’.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Egerton shed some light on the forthcoming Apple TV+ release, “It’s a great thriller, and everyone’s fantastic. It’s a great supporting cast. There are some real top-tier British stalwarts like Roger Allam. He’s amazing, and they did an incredible job of making him look like Robert Maxwell. It was quite eerie, actually, when I first saw him. Then there’s a host of really brilliant Russian actors as well. So it’s a really strong cast, and it came together really well.”
Egerton first rose to worldwide prominence through Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015), in which he played Gary “Eggsy” Unwin. He also led the sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017), and Dexter Fletcher’s Eddie the Eagle (2015). But his standout performance came in Elton John’s biopic, Rocketman, also helmed by Fletcher. He will play the character of Henk Rogers in the film.
Apart from Taron Egerton, Tetris treasures a well-talented cast of Toby Jones, Nikita Yefremov, Roger Allam, Anthony Boyle, Ken Yamamura, Ben Miles, Matthew Marsh, and many more. It will release on March 31 on the Apple TV+ service. Stay tuned for more updates.
