Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Ghilli’ To Hit Screens Again On April 20!

Vijay is one of the biggest names in Tamil cinema and for that very reason, he is one of the few Tollywood actors who hold immense power over the Tamil box office. So much so, that ‘Ghilli’, a feature film directed by Dharani and starring him and Trisha Krishnan in the lead roles was one of the most fan-anticipated re-releases of this year.

Now, it finally has a date! While it was first released on April 16, 2004, it will now hit theatres on April 20 – about 20 years after its initial release. Despite holding multiple box office records, Ghilli was a career-defining movie for Thalapathy Vijay as it broke the Tamil box office. Prior to launching in theatres again, the movie has undergone a technical makeover – digital remastering and the release of a 4K DOLBY version.

The movie will be screened not only in Tamil Nadu but also numerous screens across Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, owing to the actor’s pan-Indian craze. Ghilli is the Tamil remake of superstar Mahesh Babu’s also career-defining Telugu hit titled ‘Okkadu’, which premiered in 2003.

The plot of the feature revolves around Velu, an aspiring Kabaddi player, and Dhanalakshmi, a girl he saves from the tyrannical Muthupandi, a powerful man keen on marrying the girl against her wishes. While it is anticipated to set the box office on fire again, only time can tell the magnitude of ripples in Tollywood the re-release of this iconic film will cause!
