Following the announcement of the sequel by Amazon MGM, actor J. K. Simmons has disclosed when Ben Affleck’s The Accountant 2 will commence filming. The announcement of the sophomore entry was surely a surprise, considering the mediocre critical reception of the first film (2016). In addition, the first movie was a sleeper hit, somehow earning over $155 million globally against a $44 million budget after starting slowly at the box office.
J. K. Simmons is also in the cast of The Accountant 2. However, his role will be shorter in the sequel compared to the first film. In a recent interview with Collider, the actor revealed that the filming for the second part would commence soon. He will go to Los Angeles in about a week to play his part. This is what he said in the interview:
“Yeah, I head to LA in a little over a week to do some rehearsals and pre-production and start shooting my chunk of it. I’m not even sure, I think they start early next week because then I’m in the week after and doing my supporting thing.”
Simmons’ comments indicate that the second Accountant film may arrive in theatres sooner than expected. The sequel may be released in the first half of 2025. Let’s see what happens.
The script for The Accountant 2 went under development in February 2022. However, Amazon MGM took a long time to confirm the sequel as its cast members were unavailable due to their respective busy schedules.
Gavin O’Connor will return to direct The Accountant 2. The sequel will star Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, J. K. Simmons, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson. Stay tuned for more updates.
