Production company Lucasfilm decided not to move forward with a second season of the Star Wars spinoff starring Amandla Stenberg, therefore the story of The Acolyte will not continue.
Leslye Headland, the showrunner, director, and creator of the eight-episode first season of the series, announced the decision more than a month after it concluded its Disney+ run.
While The Acolyte received a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it split fans of the Star Wars franchise, which was seen in its total viewership. Driven by enthusiasm for the storied franchise, The Acolyte began with two episodes on June 4 and garnered 4.8 million views on its first day on the streaming platform, making it the largest series premiere on Disney+ this year.
The Acolyte, however, was unable to maintain the momentum and left the Top 10 in Week 3 until making a comeback at No. 10 following the release of the conclusion.
During the last days of the High Republic era, viewers were transported by the mystery-thriller The Acolyte into a galaxy full with dark secrets and newly arising dark-side forces. Returning to her Jedi Master, a former Padawan finds herself up against more evil forces than she could have imagined while looking into a string of crimes.
