The Acolyte: Star Wars Fans Are Unhappy With Leslye Headland

Star Wars fans are in no mood to tolerate Leslye Headland, the creator of The Acolyte Disney+ series. While many of them have praised the show’s latest trailer, they are certainly not happy with Headland’s association with the upcoming Star Wars project. She has become quite a controversial figure among the fanbase. How did it happen? Let’s delve deep into this mess!

Leslye Headland started her career as a writer. She got her first break as a writer in FX’s Terriers (2010). Headland has also directed some episodes of popular shows like Blunt Talk, SMILF, Heathers, and Black Monday. However, Netflix’s Russian Doll was the big break she needed. She co-created the critically acclaimed comedy-drama series with Amy Poehler and Natasha Lyonne. In addition, she has helmed movies such as Bachelorette (2012) and Sleeping with Other People (2015).

Now, back to our topic! Many Star Wars fans strongly believe that Headland is unfit for ‘the galaxy far, far away’. Some fans have complained that The Acolyte creator doesn’t have much knowledge of the space opera franchise. In reality, however, she considers herself a diehard Star Wars fan.

Another thing that is causing trouble for Headland is her past connection with Harvey Weinstein. Fans believe that Headland should have spoken up about Weinstein’s dirty deeds a long time ago as she served as his personal assistant for a year, apart from working at Miramax for six long years. In an interview with ABC News, Headland revealed that her experience at Miramax under Weinstein’s direction was unpleasant. She touched on her experience during that time in her 2012 play, Assistance.

In 2020, Harvey Weinstein’s controversial and disturbing ‘Red Flag List’ was revealed at the New York City criminal courthouse. The names of nearly 70 celebrities, actors, and actresses were found on that infamous list. Weinstein believed that these individuals secretly talked to journalists under anonymous identities about his deeds. He even hired private investigators to pressure these people. Leslye Headland’s name was found on that list as well.

Moreover, many Star Wars fans claim that Headland’s The Acolyte is a ‘woke’ project. They believe that the forthcoming Disney+ series takes inspiration from Disney’s fairy tales and will try to shed light on the LGBTQ agenda.

Fans are divided over The Acolyte’s overall premise, as the show will introduce plenty of new characters and will stay away from The Skywalker Saga. If we add the recent controversies surrounding Leslye Headland to the mix, things do not look good for The Acolyte at all. Stay tuned for more updates.
