The Adam Project Sets Viewership Record on Netflix

Ryan Reynolds starrer The Adam Project is setting the top 10 charts at Netflix on fire. As per the weekly hours-watched data released by Netflix, the movie was watched for 92.4 million hours by subscribers during the week ended March 13, 2022.

This meant that the movie was not only the most watched movie during last week but also the third most watched Netflix movie during its debut week. Netflix began releasing data for weekly viewership in November with backdated charts since July made available. The Adam Project with 92.4 million views during its debut week is behind Red Notice and Don’t Look Up.

Red Notice, starring Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds, clocked in viewership of 148.7 million hours during the week ended November 14, 2021. Adam McKay’s Leonardo DiCaprio starred Don’t Look Up on the other hand raked up 111 million hours of views for the week ended December 26, 2021.

The Adam Project had a strong buzz around it given its strong cast and an interesting plot. It is a Sci-Fi action comedy directed by Shawn Levy. Apart from Ryan Reynolds, it stars Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, Walker Scobell, Catherine Keener, and Zoe Saldaña. The plot follows a pilot who goes back in time and encounters his younger self.

It reunited the director-actor duo of Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds after last year’s hit, Free Guy, which earned US$ 331.5 million in box office collections worldwide amid a pandemic. The duo will be back again for a third movie – Deadpool 3.

The first week numbers are a clear indication that this was one of the most anticipated movies on Netflix. However, viewership going forward will be based on audience reactions. The initial response suggests that audiences are finding the movie entertaining. If a strong word-of-mouth adds to the already wide marketing efforts, we could see the movie do well for weeks to come.
