The Archies: Netflix’s Big Film Brings Harsh Trolling!

“The Archies,” the much-anticipated Netflix musical comedy film, has left audiences divided in the wake of its release. Directed by Zoya Akhtar and produced by Tiger Baby Films and Graphic India, the film centres around the fictional music band associated with Archie Comics, featuring a star-studded cast including Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Suhana Khan, Vedang Raina, Mihir Ahuja, Aditi “Dot” Saigal, and Yuvraj Menda.

Premiering at the 54th International Film Festival of India on November 22, 2023, and subsequently hitting Netflix on December 7, the film’s premise, set in 1960s India, explores the challenges faced by Archie and the gang as developers threaten to demolish a cherished park.

However, the reception has been less than stellar, with audiences expressing disappointment and labelling it as Zoya Akhtar’s weakest film. The social media sphere is buzzing with criticism, particularly targeting the performances of Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Agastya Nanda, accusing them of benefiting from nepotism.

Despite a robust promotional campaign by Netflix India, the negative word of mouth seems to be overshadowing the film’s potential success. The audience’s discontent with the film’s perceived shortcomings, both in narrative and performance, is evident in the form of widespread trolling and unfavourable reactions circulating through various platforms.

“The Archies” stands as a stark example of the challenges faced by films with a promising premise but faltering execution. Only time will tell whether the film can overcome the initial backlash and find its place among the audience’s preferences.
