Disney+ has announced a new series titled ‘The Artful Dodger’. It will be an Australian series and will star actors like Thomas Brodie-Sangster, David Thewlis and Maia Mitchell. The show will be premiering on the29th of November this year.
The series is created by James McNamara, David Maher and David Taylor. Different episodes of the show will be directed by various directors like Gracie Otto and Corrie Chen.
The Artful Dodger is an iconic character from Charles Dickens’ much loved Victorian novel ‘Oliver Twist’. Jack Dawkins, a pickpocket also known as The Artful Dodger lures the protagonist Oliver into the world of crime and introduces him to Fagin, an exploiter of young minds. The show, however, will tell the story of an adult Jack Dawkins. As far as we know, the show will show Dawkins as a surgeon, further away from his troubling past. The governor’s daughter is also his competition and also his love interest. Everything goes on pretty well in the Dodger’s life, but his past associations still haunt him. He yearns for a respectable life, but Fagin and his crime world lurks in every corner of his newly found respectable career. The whole story is set in Australia and the timeline is the same with the novel. There can also be an appearance of Oliver Twist in the series.
Those who are fans of literary classics and spin-offs, will like this show tremendously and it has enough potential for the liking of new audiences as well. The cast is perfect and Brodie-Sangster looks pretty convincing in the first look.
