A reboot of the Batman film franchise titled ‘The Batman’ featuring Robert Pattinson will see the ‘Tenet’ actor essay the coveted role of a younger version of the titular masked vigilante Bruce Wayne aka Batman. Besides Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the antagonist Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, the Matt Reeves directorial superhero movie also stars acclaimed actor Colin Farrell as the disfigured criminal called Penguin.
As DC fans across the globe eagerly await the release of ‘The Batman’, a spin-off series based on the character of Batman’s well known adversary Penguin is reportedly under initial stages of development at HBO Max. The unconfirmed spin-off series will ostensibly revolve around the rise of the Gotham city mobster ‘Penguin’ and its treatment will be akin to Al Pacino starrer crime classic ‘Scarface’.
Like ‘The Batman’, ‘Total Recall’ and ‘True Detective’ actor Colin Farrell is expected to reprise his role of the DC supervillain Penguin aka Oswald Oz Cobblepot in the aforesaid spin-off series. Penguin’s live-action portrayals have previously been essayed by Danny DeVito in Tim Burton’s 1992 film ‘Batman Returns’ and more recently in the TV series ‘Gotham’ by Robin Lord Taylor.
Colin Farrell’s Penguin based show would be the second spin-off venture as another police procedural spin-off series is already under development since last year whose story would revolve around the Gotham City Police Department. Interestingly, the Gotham Police-based series is purportedly set during the first year of Batman’s crime-fighting adventures. While ‘The Batman’ film led by Robert Pattinson is set during the second year of Batman’s crime-fighting endeavors.
While ‘The Batman’ movie is set for a theatrical release in March 2022, it might be too early to predict the streaming details of the Colin Farrell’s Penguin-based spin-off series. Stay tuned to Binged for further updates on this.
