The Batman: Strong Friday Sets up Opening Weekend

The Batman’, it seems, has successfully managed to continue the revival at domestic box office post the third wave of the pandemic. Early reports coming in suggest that the movie has managed a collection of around ₹ 6-8 crores. This is supposed to be the second highest opening day collection for an international release in India post pandemic.

As per a report by boxofficeindia.com, the movie has expectedly done well in metro cities such as Mumbai and Delhi. The collections are far lower than the first day collection of Spider-Man: No Way Home which clocked a record ₹ 32.67 crores. But MCU movies and Spider-Man in particular are evidently a lot more popular in India (and around the World) than DC and Batman franchise. However, these numbers still indicate a strong showing. The Batman’s collections are lower but not far off from another big Bollywood release last week – Gangubai Kathiawadi which collected ₹ 10.5 crores on its opening day. With this start, the movie is estimated to have a strong opening weekend.

In the US, the initial estimates suggest an even stronger response to the movie. The movie is estimated to have done a business of $55 Mn on Friday (including previews). This is the biggest opening to-date in 2022. But just like back home, the movie is second best to Spider-Man: No Way Home, during the pandemic era, which had a collection of $121.9 Mn on its opening day. The opening weekend collection for The Batman in the US is now expected to be at around $110 Mn.

Strong numbers, both domestically and globally, suggest that the movie industry is up and running. With a spate of strong line-ups scheduled, the box office is expected to go only one way from hereon – Onwards and Upwards.
