Warner Bros’ latest rebooted version of The World’s Greatest Detective, The Batman, is currently playing in theatres. Matt Reeves‘ directional is performing spectacularly in terms of earnings. It has crossed the $500 million mark at the global box office. With this feat, the movie is now the second-highest-grossing film of 2022, behind the Chinese epic war production, The Battle at Lake Changjin II. Also, we know that WB chose to simultaneously dispatch all its big movies through the HBO Max streaming platform and in theatres last year. However, that’s not the case with the Robert Pattinson starrer. The studio has decided to follow in the footsteps of Marvel by giving its mega-budget projects at least 45 days of the theatrical run before streaming them via HBO Max. Here’s when The Batman will arrive on Indian OTT.
The Batman got its worldwide release on March 4. It ended up winning the hearts of the majority of fans and critics. The film’s overall grim, gritty, and hardcore tone impressed a lot of viewers. Also, it stands with a critical reception of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes with an audience score of 88%. Now, WB has revealed the HBO Max release date of the movie. It will hit the streaming service on April 19 and the HBO service provider on April 23. However, HBO is not available in India. The network stopped bestowing its services in the Indian territories due to its lack of strong viewership in the country a while ago. But all the DCEU projects, distributed under the WB banner, are now available on Amazon Prime Video. Even Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy is a part of the streaming platform. So, we can expect the latest Batman project to come out on Prime Video somewhere around its HBO Max release date.
WB decided to give simultaneously releases to various movies last year. Films like Godzilla vs. Kong, Mortal Kombat, Space Jam: A New Legacy, The Suicide Squad, Dune, and The Matrix Resurrections suffered the ill consequences of this step. All these films bombed hard at the box office except Godzilla vs. Kong and Dune. It seems like the studio learnt its lesson a bit late by not selecting the “simultaneous release” option for The Batman. Nonetheless, we can expect good things for upcoming WB releases now.
The Batman gave Robert Pattinson as the new Caped Crusader to the fans. And the leading man did not let them down. The film is doing pretty well in theatres. And we should expect the same from it through its OTT release. Stay tuned for more updates.
