Delving deep into the historical backdrop of independence, SonyLiv’s “Freedom At Midnight”, serves a dose of history to the viewers.
Based on 1975’s political book by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre, Sony Liv is launching their much anticipated series with the same name “Freedom At Midnight”, the series deals with India’s independence and how the British coloniser partitioned the country into India and Pakistan and several other critical aspects of that time period are woven in the plot.
Chirag Vohra as Mahatma Gandhi, Sidhant Gupta who gained a huge appreciation after prime’s “Jubilee” as Jawaharlal Nehru and as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rajendra Chawla have already joined the crew.
But, now what about the Britishers?
Characters like Lord Mountbatten are an intricate part of the novel. So to fill the void, Cordelia Bugeja, Richard Teverson, Luke McGibney, Andrew Cullum and Alistair Findlay joined the cast.
McGibney and Bugeja will play as Lord Louis Mountbatten and Lady Edwina Mountbatten, Andrew Cullum as Clement Attlee and Teverson will play the character of Cyril Radcliffe.
This book deals with a very sensitive part of history, which is the independence of India and the partition of India. The unknown struggle which the people of India faced while they were revolting and how Britishers took their chance to sabotage the common people is depicted here.
According to SonyLiv’s head , this series is a very ambitious project of SonyLiv, as they tried to put forth the politically tumultuous situation from the pages to screen.
Nikkhil Advani who served as a director of this series said this series is the result of unwavering dedication and relentless determination of the whole team. Because, Covid and lockdown prevented them from doing this series.
According to McGibney, as Lord Mountbatten, he stepped into one of the most controversial and profound characters of India’s history, he felt that it was a great responsibility he had to carry out.
The news of this chief’s kiss cast came out when the rumours about another project which will deal with the 20th Century political, Indian backdrop came to light .
