‘The Broken News’ On ZEE5: Sensationalism Sells, Not News!

Zee5 has dropped the trailer for its upcoming original web series ‘The Broken News’ and this one looks quite intriguing and exciting. Helmed by Vinay Waikul, ‘The Broken News’, set to premiere only on Zee5 this June 10th, is a riveting adaptation of the popular 2018 British series ‘Press’.

The trailer begins with famous reporter Dipankar Sanyal (Jaideep Ahlawat)of Josh 24×7 claiming another media person Radha Bhargava (Shriya Pilgaonkar) to be an anti-national an national television.

From there the trailer takes us inside another news channel Aawaz Bharti’s office where another popular journalist Amina Qureshi (Sonali Bendre) believes in the business of delivering fair and unbiased news to the public. But in today’s times public wants more than just news, they want sensational stories and that’s what Sanyal tries to bring forward with all the power, money and connections he has.

But the real twist comes later when Radha, who works for Aawaz Bharti, tries to present a controversial story and is prevented to do so. It all further leads to blacking out of Aawaz Bharti by court orders. It’s then that Radha joins Sanyal’s Josh 24×7 and he asks her to work on Operation Umbrella. While working on the operation, Radha discovers a lot of unimaginable things and what follows is an intriguing sequence of events that keeps one on the edge.

As per Zee5, ‘The Broken News’ follows the story of two Indian news channels with have opposing principles that leads to a fierce rivalry. The dynamic journalists attempt to balance their lives while facing an uncertain future.

‘The Broken News’ on Zee5 stars an ensemble cast of Sonali Bendre, who is making her OTT debut, Jaideep Ahlawat (‘Paatal Lok’), Shriya Pilgaonkar (‘Mirzapur’, ‘Guilty Minds’), Indranil Sengupta, Faisal Rashid, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Kiran Kumar and Taaruk Raina among others.

Vinay Waikul, who recently helmed Netflix’s ’Aranyak’ serves as the director for Zee5’s ’The Broken News’. Zee5 Global and BBC Studios India have partnered for this series adaptation. ‘The Broken News’ will premiere only on Zee5 on 10th June, 2022.
