Over the years, American director and actor, Tyler Perry has donned several hats and has emerged as a world-renowned producer, screenwriter, playwright, author, songwriter, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.
Under a previously announced multi-year first-look creative partnership with Netflix, Perry will write, direct, and produce feature films and series for the studio. His next, a series titled ‘Beauty in Black’ follows two women leading entirely different lives. While Kimmie is struggling to make a living after her mother kicked her out, Mallory is running an overtly successful business. However, they still somehow manage to find themselves entangled in each other’s lives.
The show will be a 16-episode hour-long drama. Netflix recently announced the cast for the same. The ensemble for some of the major characters includes names like Taylor Polidore Williams as Kimmie; Crystle Stewart as Mallory; Amber Reign Smith, Ricco Ross, Debbi Morgan, Richard Lawson, Steven G. Norfleet, Julian Horton, and Terrell Carter.
This creative partnership with Netflix, came on top of Perry’s BET deal for TV, which is already ongoing with more than 10 series at the company. Under his deal with Netflix which commenced in October 2023, Perry has only created films so far.
