Warner Bros was determined to make the most of the festive season, planning to release three consecutive films in ten days. From Wonka’s Chocolaty World to Aquaman’s Thrill and now, an adaptation of the famous book, The Colour Purple.
The novel itself has a very long history, and with the spices of Steven Spielberg’s magic and a stunning Broadway musical, you will definitely feel that there is indeed a long legacy. And now, add one more feather to the crown.
Now, the Christmas opening was definitely supposed to be a big one, but The Color Purple now sets up the record to have the second-best opening of any Christmas day opener, sharing the record with Les Miserables.
As of now, the film debuted with a whopping $18.1M, enough to give WB a solid boost. Now, the Christmas market is going strong as all three films by WB are ruling the charts, but The Color Purple has all the possibility to be a global sensation soon.
With strong reviews and a stronger box office, The Color Purple is indeed the colour of the theatres, and if Wonka slows down a bit, WB will definitely have another hit in the making.
