Horror movie buffs ahoy! In a fantastic piece of update for fans of ‘The Conjuring’ film franchise, a fourth installment of The Conjuring’ film series is officially under development (as per THR). The first Conjuring film came out in 2013 and has achieved a cult status amongst horror aficionados. It was directed by ‘Aquaman’ helmer James Wan. So, the question is: Will James Wan come back to direct ‘The Conjuring 4’ or not?
As per the latest update, no director has been attached yet to direct ‘The Conjuring 4’. But it seems unlikely that James Wan will go behind the camera for the sequel. However, on the brighter side, the makers have roped in the talented writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick to pen the script for ‘The Conjuring 4’ movie. Moreover, James Wan executive produce the upcoming Conjuring sequel.
The talented writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick’s earlier works include the acclaimed 2009 horror thriller ‘Orphan’, and the two Conjuring sequels namely ‘The Conjuring 2’ and ‘The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It’. Besides, he has also lent his writing skills for ‘Aquaman’, ‘Aquaman 2’, and the recently released Orphan sequel ‘Orphan: First Kill’.
Recently, James Wan has revealed through Instagram that Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who essayed the roles of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in the Conjuring films, will reprise their roles for ‘The Conjuring 4’ as well.
Besides the three Conjuring movies released until now, three spin-off films focused on the dreaded Anabelle doll were released later. And another spin-off-prequel titled ‘The Nun’ came out in 2018. The films released so far under the ambit of ‘The Conjuring’ universe have grossed around a whopping $2.1 billion at the box office. Besides ‘The Conjuring 4’, two more upcoming films under the Conjuring universe are ‘The Nun 2’ and ‘The Crooked Man’.
