The Fantastic Four: Is MCU Saving Norrin Radd For Another Timeline?

Marvel Studios’ recent announcement of Julia Garner joining the cast of The Fantastic Four is not sitting well with all Marvel fans. It is understandable, as many fans wanted to see Norrin Radd’s version of the Silver Surfer in the upcoming FF project. Radd’s version is more prominent among fans and has more impactful comic storylines than Shalla-Bal’s. Some believe Garner’s addition is another feeble attempt by Disney and Marvel to support the ‘woke’ culture. On the other hand, some do not believe in this crap at all. However, there is a potential scenario that could not only justify Shalla-Bal’s inclusion in the MCU but also pave the way for Norrin Radd’s introduction to the superhero franchise.

According to some fans, the events of The Fantastic Four will take place in another timeline, outside of Earth-616. It means the MCU’s fabulous foursome may originally belong to another timeline. This scenario makes sense as it takes care of the need to explain where they have been all this time. In addition, this scenario can justify Shalla-Bal’s addition to the forthcoming Fantastic Four film. In the comics, Shalla-Bal is the love interest of Norrin Radd – the first iteration of the Silver Surfer. The casting of Garner may indicate that the movie’s narrative unfolds in an alternate timeline.

Marvel Studios have not confirmed this scenario. But let’s assume that Shalla-Bal and the Fantastic Four belong to a different timeline. If this scenario turns out true in the upcoming Matt Shakman film, then it would give Marvel a perfect opportunity to add Norrin Radd to the MCU as the Silver Surfer from Earth-616’s continuity. There is nothing wrong with gender-swapping popular superhero characters. However, Julia Garner needs to play Shalla-Bal with everything she has to not only impress Marvel’s fanbase but also win their hearts.

MCU’s The Fantastic Four will arrive in theatres worldwide on July 25, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
