The First Four Minutes of Ram Gopal Varma’s Upcoming Film ‘D Company’ Unveiled

By Binged Bureau - May 06, 2021 @ 06:05 pm

Earlier today, maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma took to Twitter to announce that the first four minutes of his upcoming crime film ‘D Company’ will be released at 5 PM.

The post further informed us that it is the story of Dawood Ibrahim told in the filmmaker’s voiceover. While the full film is scheduled to be released on May 15 on Spark OTT streaming platform.

The film is ostensibly set amidst the backdrop of 1980s Bombay and is reportedly about how the gangster made a street gang into the world’s most dreaded organization. Here is a rundown of the first four minutes of the film released today.

The film begins with Ram Gopal Verma’s narrative voiceover as he tells the audience that 40 years ago, Mumbai city was under the control of D Company and was not as peaceful as it is now and that he was always interested in studying the life of gangsters.

The voiceover further tells us that many gangsters at that time aspired to become the king of Mumbai (reminded us of Satya’s cult line “Mumbai ka king kaun…Bhiku Mhatre”).

Along with the voiceover, later we are shown a glimpse of a seemingly ordinary man riding a scooter (apparently the dreaded gangster) and are subsequently told that the inception of the dangerous company began at midnight in a Dongri bar. And the video ends here.

With ‘D Company’, filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma is getting back to what he does best – making hard-hitting crime films. He is regarded as the man behind the path-breaking noir-fiction film ‘Satya’.

Subsequently, he directed another gangster flick called ‘Company’, which starred Ajay Devgn and Vivek Oberoi in the lead roles. The film was allegedly based on an infamous rivalry between real-life dons.

Both these films ‘Satya’ and ‘Company’ were admired for their intense and ingenious portrayals of the Mumbai underworld. However, it remains to be seen whether Ram Gopal Verma’s ‘D Company’ will be able to replicate the enormous acclaim attained by the aforementioned cult films.

One of Ram Gopal Verma’s forthcoming directorial projects also include the Vivek Oberoi starrer ‘Rai’, which purportedly follows the story of businessman Muthappa Rai.

You can watch the first four minutes of ‘D Company’ on RGV’s YouTube channel below.
