Early reviews for Chris Pratt’s The Garfield Movie have surfaced and, they are not looking pretty at all. Even though the movie isn’t great, it’s apparently still better than the ones with Bill Murray. The film will arrive in theatres globally on May 24, 2024. Through, Sony has released it in some regions.
Sony released The Garfield Movie in 18 countries (excluding the United States and Canada) on May 3. It has also arrived in India. While most of the Indian critics and audiences have reacted positively towards the film, its international reception has turned out more mixed.
Most of the critics have praised the film’s animation, the cast’s voice performances (excluding Pratt’s), and the film’s heart. However, the movie fails to offer anything new in terms of storyline and humour. Some critics have pointed out the odds of the film’s meta humour going over the heads of its target audience, i.e., kids. In addition, some have noted the lack of the protagonist’s subversive and sarcastic humour in the movie. As for Pratt, the actor’s lifeless voice work as Garfield ultimately lets down the movie.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film currently stands at a ‘rotten’ 56% critic score, based on 26 certified reviews. It may go down further after the movie comes out on May 24.
The Garfield Movie stars Chris Pratt, Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillen, Brett Goldstein, Snoop Dogg, and more.
