‘The Kerala Story’ Zooms Past ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ Box Office

Amidst all the controversies, bans and negative reviews from many critics, the hard-hitting movie ‘The Kerala Story’ has still managed to set the box office on fire. Until now, the film has purportedly minted more than a whopping 200 crores at the box office in India. Moreover, it has ostensibly grossed over 250 crores at the box office worldwide. And it looks like it is in no mood to stop as of now. The movie’s incredible theatrical success is rather reminiscent of last year’s film ‘The Kashmir Files’.

And in doing that, ‘The Kerala Story’ has now zoomed past Bollywood biggies like the Ranbir Kapoor starrer rom-com ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’, Salman Khan’s ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’, and Ajay Devgn’s directorial action drama ‘Bholaa’. ‘The Kerala Story’ has now also become the second highest Bollywood grosser of the year so far, only behind SRK’s massive blockbuster ‘Pathaan’.

Backed by filmmaker Vipul Amrutlal Shah (Aankhen, Namaste London), ‘The Kerala Story’ follows the story of three girls from various regions of the State of Kerala including the main character of an aspiring nurse Shalini (played by Adah Sharma). The film’s basic plot is about the painful journey and how these girls are abducted and later forced to join ISIS and Shalini’s eventual imprisonment. The film was directed by Sudipto Sen.

Despite getting panned by many critics, ‘The Kerala Story’ has received a decent user rating of 7.5/10 on IMDb based on around 54k votes as of now. Moreover, Adah Sharma’s performance in the film was praised by many viewers. It remains to be seen how far can ‘The Kerala Story’ goes as far as the film’s box office is concerned.
