International movies database portal IMDb houses a list of the top 250 highest rated shows of all time. However, in the year 2023, no show until now was able to make it to the coveted IMDb top 250 list. Either IMDb has made its criteria a bit stricter than before, or maybe no series until now could gather sufficiently good IMDb user ratings this year.
Whatever the reason is, one title from 2023 has now become the first ever series to make it to IMDb’s top 250 TV shows list. And no prizes for guessing because the show’s name is HBO’s widely admired video game to small screen series adaptation ‘The Last Of Us’.
And ‘The Last Of Us’ series has entered IMDb top 250 in great style. The series has straight away debuted with a highly impressive Rank 16. And in doing that, it has beaten some top titles such as ‘Better Call Saul’, ‘True Detective’, ‘Fargo’, ‘Narcos’, and ‘Succession’, to name a few. ‘The Last Of Us’ currently holds a brilliant IMDb user rating of 9.2/10 based on around 195k votes.
Ever since its premiere on 15th January on HBO Max and on 16th January on Disney+ Hotstar in India, ‘The Last Of Us’ series has got a big thumbs-up from audiences and critics alike. Many of them even called it the best live-action video game to series adaptation ever.
The unanimous critical acclaim of ‘The Last of Us’ series is also aptly reflected in reviews aggregation portals including Rotten Tomatoes. Overall, the show has received the coveted ‘Certified Fresh’ status and a highly impressive critics’ score of 97% so far on Rotten Tomatoes.
Until now, five out of a total of nine episodes of ‘The Last of Us’ series have been released. And unsurprisingly, the show has already been renewed for a second season. So, its IMDb rating and ranking might change in the near future as more episodes come out.
The horror-adventure series ‘The Last of Us’ revolves around two characters Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and is set in the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world full of infected creatures. The basic premise is that Joel, a hardened smuggler, is hired to transport a teenager Ellie across the country, while protecting her from omnipresent dangers.
