Showrunner Craig Mazin has confirmed that HBO’s ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 may upset some fans. He created the show with Neil Druckmann.
Season 1 of ‘The Last of Us’ has bagged a total of 24 Emmy nominations. Only Jesse Armstrong’s Succession (another HBO masterpiece) has more Emmy nominations than Mazin’s creation, 27.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mazin revealed that he has already started preparing for fan “furor” around the upcoming seasons.
“I’m never gonna say there are things that are gonna happen in the show that happened in the game. You never know what we’re gonna do,” Mazin informed EW over the phone while celebrating Season 1’s Emmy nominations. “But I will say that it is the adventure, the journey is the point. There are things that will shock people, things that were in the game, things that were not in the game, and that’s okay.”
“Will there be furor? Yeah, probably,” he added. “I mean, there usually is, starting even with casting.”
Mazin’s statement refers to the backlash received by Bella Ramsey (uses they/them pronouns) after she got selected for the role of Ellie. Well, her haters can shut their mouths as she is now one of the nominees at this year’s Emmys (for Best Actress in a Drama Series).
Deadline recently revealed that ‘The Last of Us: Part II’ will be split into two seasons for the HBO series. And we should expect some controversial moments from both entries.
Nearly three years have passed since the arrival of the ‘Part II’ video game. Still, players talk about it to this day. Now, it is considered one of the most divisive video game titles ever. Wanna know why? Let’s find out!
‘Part II’ is notorious for several controversial plot points. For instance, many fans did not want Joel to meet his demise. A mysterious character kills Joel in front of Ellie in the game. Later, it gets revealed that Joel’s murderer is named Abby, who wants to take revenge for her father’s death. Joel murders her father to save Ellie during the final moments of the first entry. This could limit Joel’s screen time in Season 2 as most of his interactions with Ellie in ‘Part II’ appear in the form of flashbacks. In addition, many fans may lose their minds after witnessing the death of their favourite character.
The above scenario will make Abby the most controversial character in the second season. Many video game players believe Abby is a weak character in ‘Part II’. Some do not like her because she’s a female lead.
But the most controversial thing about ‘Part II’ is its ambiguous ending. Believe it or not, Ellie lets Abby live. This particular storyline pissed off many fans, as they wanted to kill Abby after what she did to Joel. In addition, some fans think that her decision to let Joel’s murderer go was not thoroughly established throughout the video game.
It seems like the forthcoming seasons of ‘The Last of Us’ will be a bumpy ride for many viewers. Stream Season 1 on Jio Cinema. Stay tuned for more updates.
