HBO’s The Last of Us Episode 4 is out now! The latest episode is by far the shortest episode in the series. Still, it delivers adequate excitement to the fans and throughout remains compelling. Joel finally surrenders to Ellie’s lame jokes and starts laughing his a** off in the final moments. Also, we see him getting involved in some gritty and ruthless action to protect Ellie and himself from the bandits. Among many sweet and crispy moments, a character surprisingly shined the most in the latest episode. Yes, we are talking about Kathleen, played by Melanie Lynskey.
Lynskey doesn’t get as much screen time as the leading duo. Yet, she leaves a long-lasting impact on the minds of viewers. The moment the Yellowjackets fame starts delivering her dialogue, we can see that her character carries a massive emotional trauma. Kathleen is still struggling to get over her brother’s merciless death. She learns about the death of some of her group members while interrogating a doctor. At this point, she doesn’t know that Joel killed those guys. Instead, she starts believing that Henry, the guy who ratted out her brother’s location to FEDRA during the initial days of the pandemic, was responsible for their deaths. This scenario causes Kathleen to order her men to hunt down Henry.
The scene in which Kathleen cold-bloodedly shoots the doctor brilliantly displays the cruelty that has been boiling inside her since her brother’s death. She once was a good and kindhearted woman. But now, she has turned into something else. Her new self is not afraid to opt for violence to keep things under control in the ruined Kansas City.
The Last of Us Episode 4 ends with Kathleen and her second-in-command, Perry, discovering the infected finding their way out into the city. However, the former forces Perry to keep his mouth shut about this scenario as it may disrupt the peace and her mission of finding Henry. Soon, we see Henry and his younger brother holding Joel and Ellie at gunpoint.
The infected are undoubtedly more dangerous to the city instead of Henry. But Kathleen has forgotten that. Her hatred towards Henry has clouded her mind, ensuring Kansas City’s destruction soon.
Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen looks like a conflicted yet compelling character. We should expect Episode 5 to be more spicy and thrilling than the latest one. Viewers can stream The Last of Us Episode 4 on Disney+ Hotstar. Stay tuned for more updates.
