The Last Of Us Season 2: Abby’s Story Will Be More Tragic Than Ellie’s

Fans of Naughty Dog’s The Last Of Us video game series know that Season 2 will be more emotional than the first one. The upcoming season will contain plenty of heartbreaking moments, with Joel’s death being the most painful. Despite receiving immense hate from fans, Abby is undoubtedly a compelling and strong character in the game, and her story will be more tragic than Ellie’s in the second season.

The Last of Us Season 2 may tweak some minor storylines from its source material, but it will stay true to Part II’s big moments. The second season will have Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. In Part II, she loses all her friends and ex-boyfriend, thanks to Ellie, who descends into the depths of vengeance after Abby kills Joel.

During the final moments of Season 1, we witnessed Joel killing numerous fireflies and the doctors who were trying to operate on Ellie. One of those doctors was Abby’s father. The death of her father changes her and makes her life more challenging than it already was. The reason why the majority of the video game’s fans hate her is that she killed Joel. And how she killed Joel was nothing short of brutal. Yet, her actions were somewhat justifiable.

Ellie had many wholesome moments in Season 1. However, we may witness her at her absolute worst in Season 2. The upcoming season could bring out Ellie’s vicious side and worst characteristics. In Part II, she seems willing to kill anyone who dares to stand in her way. Her character arc in Season 2 will be more revenge-centric. On the other hand, Abby’s character arc was a blend of revenge and redemption in the game. Despite all her horrible deeds, she gets a chance at redemption through Lev. It is possible that showrunners may bestow a more sympathetic portrayal of Abby in Season 2 compared to what we got in the Part II video game.

HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 is expected to come out in 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
