The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie May Not Feature This Popular Star Wars Character

The Mandalorian & Grogu has indeed become a project of enormous deal at Lucasfilm, as it will be the first Star Wars movie to come out of the space opera franchise after seven long years in May 2026. The last SW film was Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), which is considered one of the worst movies from the franchise despite minting over $1 billion globally. This is why the upcoming Jon Favreau feature holds immense significance and may decide the fate of upcoming Star Wars movies, including Rogue Squadron, Lando, untitled movies from directors Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni, James Mangold, Shawn Levy, Taika Waititi, and Rian Johnson. Also, fans are expecting to see plenty of popular SW characters in The Mandalorian & Grogu. However, one globally prominent character may not appear in the film.

Boba Fett (played by Temuera Morrison) has been a tremendously popular character in the world of Star Wars. Fett’s iconic Mandalorian armor, coupled with his enigmatic demeanor and deadly skills, created an aura of mystery and intimidation. Despite receiving a little screentime in the Prequel Trilogy, Morrison breathed a new fire into the character, ultimately giving Boba a new life. This is one of the major reasons why fans want to see him again. However, the character may not feature in Jon Favreau’s next movie.

Morrison was asked about Boba Fett’s potential appearance in The Mandalorian & Grogu during a recent SW panel conducted at this year’s Fan Expo Chicago. This is what he replied:

“I’m still waiting for a phone call to be quite honest,” he said. “I think we’re just put on the shelf for a little bit. Maybe we come off the shelf later.”

The Book of Boba Fett was supposed to cement the protagonist’s legacy in the Star Wars franchise. But this Disney+ series struggled to define its core focus. Was it about Boba Fett’s journey to becoming a crime lord? Or was it primarily a continuation of The Mandalorian? This lack of clear direction clearly messed up the show’s overall storyline. Moreover, the series failed to explore and capitalise on the mystique surrounding Boba Fett. Instead, it ended up transforming the show’s true protagonist into a supporting character in his own show.

The show’s flaws were not Morrison’s fault. The actor has done an excellent job portraying the character. However, it appears that the show’s overall performance may have influenced the character’s future within the Star Wars universe. Let’s see what happens. Stay tuned for more updates.
