We are nearly a month away from getting The Marvels in theatres, scheduled to come out on November 10. The film has an incredible cast, led by the trio of Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris. Apart from these ladies, we have Samuel L. Jackson playing the fan-favourite Nick Fury and Zawe Ashton portraying Dar-Benn. The latter character will serve as the film’s primary villain.
Dar-Benn is a Kree warrior who wields an Accuser’s hammer. She also wears a bangle, pretty identical to the one on the wrist of Kamala Khan. She will be seen giving everything she has to restore her homeworld in the film.
In the newly released new look clip, this is what director Nia DaCosta says about the upcoming MCU entry, “I am really excited for the audience to see the kind of Marvel they have not seen before.”
“After the first film, we added an interesting spot. She’s [Captain Marvel] dealing with being on her own, and suddenly she gets into a situation with this new team, grappling with what it means to be a leader,” Brie Larson added.
It has become a ritual for MCU to hype their forthcoming projects as “something that the audience has not seen before”. But time has told us that we should not take these kinds of statements seriously. Loki Season 2 has received a great start in terms of audience and critical reception. However, we cannot say the same for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Secret Invasion. These projects failed to give Phase Five a successful take-off. But thanks to James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and Loki Season 2 for restoring fans’ faith in the MCU.
The ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike prohibits The Marvels actors from promoting the film. This scenario will surely affect the film’s box office performance, not to mention the lack of hype among the fans about the upcoming sequel. The upcoming Brie Larson starrer has been made on a massive budget of $274 million. Considering all the factors mentioned above, along with the ongoing superhero fatigue among moviegoers, The Marvels may have a hard time at the global box office.
The Marvels will arrive in theatres on November 10. Stay tuned for more updates.
