‘The Mother’: Trailer, Release Date, Streaming Platform, Cast, Plot

Netflix has launched the trailer for much awaited assassin thriller drama ‘The Mother’ and its an emotional, action packed ride with Jennifer Lopez slaying like none other. Helmed by Niki Caro, who also directed Disney’s live-action ‘Mulan’ remake, ‘The Mother’ will premiere exclusively on Netflix on 12th May, 2023.

The Mother’ trailer begins with Jennifer Lopez giving birth to a baby girl in the hospital. She is then dictated the terms she needs to follow by a government official, that includes disappearing, if she needs to protect herself and her newborn from Adrian Lovell and Hector Alvarez.

Lopez hands over her daughter to one of her friend to take care of her and keep her safe. She keeps an update on her daughter pretty regularly while training hard in the Alaskan wilderness. And then happens what she feared the most, her 12 year old daughter is kidnapped by those seeking vengeance from her.

Now begins the action and emotion filled ride where Lopez finds her daughter and rescues her. But it doesn’t end there she also tries to train her so that she can defend herself in future. There’s more to the story as this mother-cum-deadly assassin needs to finish what she started.

‘The Mother’ is written by Misha Green who was the showrunner for HBO’s cosmic-horror series ‘Lovecraft Country’. The film is about a military trained assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter who she gave up years before, while on the run from dangerous men.

In addition to Jennifer Lopez, ‘The Mother’ also stars Joseph Fiennes (‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, ‘Shakespeare in Love’), Omari Hardwick (‘Army of the Dead’, ‘Power’), Gael García Bernal (‘Mozart in the Jungle’, ‘Here On Earth’), Paul Raci (‘Sound of Metal’) and Lucy Paez (‘Silencio’).

Great Lakes Pictures ULC, Vertigo Entertainment, and Nuyorican Productions are the production companies backing ‘The Mother’, a Netflix original film. ‘The Mother’ will premiere exclusively on Netflix on 12th May, 2023.
