The Movie For Every Teenage Boys: Vazha

A new cinema from the Malayalam industry is to be released on 15th of August. The movie is named Vazha and it bears the epithet, ‘Biopic of a Billion Boys’. This generalisation through the word ‘Billion’ makes it clear that the movie will be about the life of every other school going boy. This makes the movie very relatable for teenage boys, but is it more than that as well?

The movie is directed by Anand Menen known for his Gauthamante Radham and is written by Vipin Das renowned for Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey and Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil. The movie stars Jeomon Jyothir, Saafboi, Hashiree, Anuraj, and Amith Mohan Rajeswari along with other actors like Kottayam Nazeer, Siju Sunny, Noby Marcose, Basil Joseph, and Azees Nedumangad. Though the movie does not boast big names in its casting, and neither it is a project that used tons of money; still it can be a gem of a work.

The movie focuses on a group of school-going boys who are under the constant pressure of their parents’ expectations from them to achieve something big in their life, while struggling to maintain an equilibrium between their parents’ desires and that of their own. The movie also focuses on the problems faced by a youngling when entering adolescence. The movie further discusses the problem of their life as the kids grow. This includes their love life as well.

The movie focuses on one of the most prevailing and hazardous issues that children face in their lives yet which goes unnoticed; i.e., parents tend to impose their career choices on them based on their will and not the children’s. So, the movie becomes a watch worthy content for the teenage kids, as well as their parents. In fact, to understand the motif of the film, parents should watch it together with their kids.

The movie, though has a low budget, and does not contain the potential to impact the big screens, still it somehow is going to be heart touching for the youngsters. It also reminds me of Milind Ukey’s directorial Humne Jeena Sikh Liya. Overall, the movie is watch worthy, though it is not eye captivating or heart throbbing.
