It’s been nearly four years since The Old Guard premiered on Netflix. Can you believe it? Time really slips away quickly, right? Well, its much-anticipated sequel, The Old Guard 2, is set to undergo reshoots this fall, which may make the year 2025 the sequel’s release window.
The sequel’s first batch of filming took place in the United Kingdom from June 2022 to September 2022. In a recent interview with Variety, Charlize Theron, star and producer of the sophomore entry, attributed the film’s production delays to changes in Netflix’s
leadership. “We got kind of stuck in that and our post-production shut down, I think, five weeks into it.”
The reshoots will take place in Vancouver, Canada, representing a major shift in production. Helmer Victoria Mahoney will return to direct these reshoots and take care of the additional photography. She also helmed the first entry, which earned an 80% ‘fresh’ critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 280 certified reviews.
With the announcement of its Fall 2024 slate, Netflix officially ruled out a 2024 release for The Old Guard 2, suggesting a potential release window in early to mid-2025. We should expect to see plenty of actors from the first movie in the sequel, such as Theron, KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
