For 5 years between 1975 -1980, the Yorkshire Ripper Murders cast a gloom upon the lives of woman in North England. 13 women were killed, and the police didn’t seem to be any close to catching the killer. The Ripper is a Netflix Original that chronicles all the events that were involved in this heinous act.
An entire nation was in horror as a crazy killer was on the loose. Even though we have evolved so much in the name of progress, there are few people who commit vile and gruesome acts that leave us in shock as to how somebody can be so inhumane.
The Yorkshire Ripper is one such story that will give you nightmares as he tormented his victims and even sheds light on some inherent vices within our society. He was famous for a modus operandi which usually involved killing prostitutes, but when he claimed the life of a woman who wasn’t a prostitute, everybody was scared.
Women across the country were asked not to roam alone, and the officers in the case were also perplexed. Dialogues such as “Any woman was at risk” and “Could I have done more.” shows us the helplessness regarding the whole situation. The one that lingers on for a long time though is when one of them makes the statement, “He was the last man anybody would have expected.” It makes me wonder whether we even know the people that are around us or we take their innocence for granted.
Netflix has never been shy when it comes to taking off the curtains or giving us a sneak peek behind some of the most controversial and gruesome crimes throughout the ages. This documentary is releasing on Netflix on 16th December.
