Get ready for ‘The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story’, a brand new Spider-Verse short, which will bridge the gap between Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Across the Spider-Verse (2023).
While things have turned out quite disastrous for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, the studio has not dropped the ball yet with its Spider-Verse projects, thanks to Sony Pictures Animation. And the forthcoming short film will indeed serve as a great and much-needed entry to the Spider-Verse franchise.
Last June, Sony released Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which earned critical acclaim and a highly positive response from fans. The second animated Spider-Verse entry minted over $690 million globally and earned a nomination at this year’s Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature. If you have watched the film, you must know it ended with a major cliffhanger. Miles accidentally enters Earth-42 after realising that the radioactive spider that gave him his power belonged to this dimension, not his own dimension Earth-1610. In Earth-42, he discovers that his father is dead, his Uncle Aaron lives, and Miles (from Earth-42) has turned into the Prowler.
The upcoming short story will tackle anxiety and mental health, promising to bestow viewers with a unique journey into Miles’ chaotic life as a superhero. Helmer Jarelle Dampier has described the short film as following Miles when he “starts to feel the pressure of his life as Spider-Man, which results in a scary, trippy little jaunt through his subconscious.”
The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story will come out on YouTube tomorrow, March 27. It features the return of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis, Miles’ father. Stay tuned for more updates. Check out the trailer here!
