Last year in November, it was announced that a small screen series adaptation of the popular children’s fantasy book series ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ was in the works at the Disney+ OTT platform. Christian Slater along with Lyon Daniels and Noah Cottrell were later cast in the series. As per the latest casting update for the upcoming show, actress and model Joy Bryant has also been roped in to star in ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ Disney+ series.
‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ series revolves around the Grace family which includes twin brothers Simon (played by Noah Cottrell) and Jared (played by Lyon Daniels), who relocate along with their mother and older sister Mallory to their ancestral property – the Spiderwick Estate. There, the Grace family learns about the secret and parallel world.
Joy Bryant will be essaying the role of Helen Grace, a smart and caring divorced woman and the mother in the aforementioned story who must deal with her three teenage children. Previously, Joy Bryant had lent her acting skills for ‘Spider-Man 2’, ‘The Skeleton Key’ and TV series like ‘ER’, ‘Parenthood’, and ‘Ballers’, amongst others.
The Disney Plus series ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ commenced production earlier this year in the month of February. A few months later, Kat Coiro, who recently directed the Marvel superhero series ‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’, was brought in as the show’s executive producer and will also direct its opening two episodes.
Before the Disney+ series adaptation of ‘The Spiderwick Chronicles’ book series, a feature film bearing the same name was also made which came out in the year 2008. The film had garnered critical acclaim besides grossing over $160 million at the box office. The Disney Plus series is expected to drop on the streaming service sometime in 2023.
