The first red band teaser of Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance is out now. It stars Demi Moore as Elisabeth Sparkle, a popular aerobics show star. Her stardom gets shattered after she gets fired on her 50th birthday because of her old age. She tries to change her luck by accepting an unexpected proposal from a mysterious laboratory. The laboratory offers her a miraculous “substance”. Upon injecting it, she becomes the best version of herself – younger and more beautiful. Alongside Moore, the movie has Margaret Qualley.
The Substance premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, receiving strong critical acclaim. Critics described the movie as wicked, gross, yet enthralling. Demi Moore’s performance was singled out for praise. The actress truly delivers her career-best performance in this one. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a fresh 93% score based on over 44 reviews.
Mubi has acquired the movie’s rights and will distribute it theatrically in many regions, including India, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Ireland, Latin America, and more. Before Mubi, Universal Pictures was in talks for the film’s theatrical distribution.
