The Substance Trailer: Demi Moore Steals The Show In This Chilling Body Horror

“Have you ever dreamed of a better version of yourself?” This dialogue from Coralie Fargeat’s acclaimed body horror, The Substance, pretty much defines the movie’s theme. The French director thrashes the established female beauty standards in the creepiest and most satiric and petrifying manner possible with her upcoming film, which has already received rave reviews at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The performances of leading ladies, particularly Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley, received acclaim at the premiere. At present, the movie has a 90% ‘fresh’ RT score based on over 45 certified reviews. Now, it has received a full-fledged trailer before its scheduled theatrical release on September 20.

Demi Moore stars as Elisabeth Sparkle, an aging star who had her own aerobics show. Everything turns upside down for Sparkle after she gets fired from the show on her 50th birthday. Just when she finds herself at her lowest, she receives an unexpected proposal. A mysterious laboratory offers her a miraculous “substance”, capable of giving her the “best version” of herself, making her “younger, more beautiful, more perfect.”

Moore delivers a powerful performance as the older version of Sparkle in the film “The Substance.” Critics have hailed her portrayal as her career-defining role, alongside praise for Margaret Qualley’s performance as the younger Sparkle, Sue. Initially, it seems like Sparkle has found a new beginning, but this illusion is shattered as the devastating side effects of the mysterious injection unravel her life.

Apart from Moore and Qualley, “The Substance” has talents such as Dennis Quaid, Hugo Diego Garcia, Phillip Schurer, Joseph Balderrama, and Robin Greer. Check out the full trailer right here!
